Baccarat Basic Rules

Baccarat is described by Seymour in 1897
This game is popular as in England by the name of “Baccara Banque” or just “Baccara” as well it is played in France as “Baccara two tableaux” or Baccara featuring two tables. The game is not played often in the USA. The definitive version of the rules was written in a “Hoyle” written by Richard Seymour published in 1897.
The players usually compete to determine who is going to provide the bank. The bank is held for the duration of the cards in the shoe or until the banker decides to let it go (whether due to bankruptcy or not). Similar to other banking games when a deal is made, a player plays head-to-head against the banker. To start, the banker places the amount to be played for on the table. Each player has the right to say ‘Banco which means to challenge the banker to play for everything he has put down in one shot. If this occurs then the duel is played directly and no other player is playing in that transaction.
In other cases, normal play takes place. The non-banking players are split into two halves , with one half consisting of players on the right side of the banker and the others those to the left. The banker places down the initial stake and then players turn to each other to put down stakes of any amount until their portion of the table is equal to the stake of the banker. The banker distributes two cards to himself and to the two representatives. In the event that any banker or players have a total of 9 or 8 they must show it at once and the two other hands are also displayed and bets are taken into account.
If not, each of the three players is allowed to play a third card face-down, starting from the player to the banker’s right and concluding with the banker. If neither one of them accepts an additional card, the banker must take the third card. Any third card is dealt face down and the hands are revealed and bets paid accordingly.
If a player has a better hand than the banker, then the banker is responsible for all bets placed on that area of table. In the event that the player’s hand is lower than that of the banker, the banker pays the bets placed on that part of the table. If not, it’s a stand-off and there is no exchange of money.
Baccarat – Chemin de Fer
In France, this version that is played is known as Baccara a Un tableau (Baccara played with just one table) However, in the US and UK it’s generally referred to as Chemin de Fer. Seymour mentioned this as a variant of Baccarat with the idea that the double-table version came first.
This variant of Baccarat differs in two key ways to that of Baccarat a tableaux deaux. First of all, for every transaction in which a player does not go “Banco,” the banker is only playing against the player to the banker’s right and the banker is paid by all players.
